Reward yourself!

In my post the other day, I posed a question for the work at home parents- what would you do if you were kid free for a week or even a few hours?

Funny, but yesterday I got 4-5 hours ALONE! For the first time in I-don't-know-how-long! My daughter went to an aunt's to go swimming and tubing, Ron was off helping a friend fix up an old bus, and the boys were somewhere or another.

I started out on the computer, but then thought about all the yard sale stuff boxed up in my living room. It was driving me crazy. Knowing I wouldn't have a chance to set up again for a couple of weeks, I transfered everything to the shed.

Then I started in on some housework.

It was getting pretty hot out and I started sweating.

So I did something that I see others do all the time, but I rarely do.

I turned on the TV and stretched out on the couch. I ended up watching a couple of episodes of Animal Planet's Last Chance Highway. If you are a dog lover, you'll love that show.

Then I proceeded to take a nap- yay! I do that maybe 4-5 times a year...I needed that!

All that rest and relaxation got me thinking of how I could reward myself when I reach a goal I have set.

Here are a few ideas- some cost money, some are FREE:

Go to lunch with a friend- Imagine that!

Buy something I've been wanting - let me think....

Get a professional massage - never done that!

Get a pedicure - never done that either but my mom swears by it

Get a manicure- although there's not much hope with these nails!

Buy a great book and go to the park or lake and hang out reading

Buy one of those super tender, super juicy, super expensive steaks- the ones that I normally can't envision myself spending our hard earned money on.....

Grill it up- No wait! Have SOMEONE ELSE grill it up...and dig in!

Take a long bubble bath - don't forget the music and a glass of wine!

And for those REALLY, REALLY big goals- get a big reward!

Buy a new toy! Go on vacation!

Question for the work at home parents....

In a couple of weeks, I am going to be kid free! Ok, semi-kid free. My 12 year old is visiting my sister in another state. My son and step-son will still be here, but they are 19 and 20 and pretty much self-sufficient (notice the pretty much :-).

There is still the chance that my 2 yr.old grandson (stepson's child) will come over during that time, but truthfully, he's not my responsibility.

So my question to all is this:

If you had a week with no kids, what would you do?

My answer would be work, of course - at least part of the time.

I also have my son's graduation party the day after my daughter gets home. I will have a lot of loose ends to tie up that week.

We are in the process of priming and painting the laundry room and hallway, then it's on to remodel the bathroom. If we're not done by my daughters departure date, that get's added to my list.

I want to paint/redecorate her bedroom while she's gone- her birthday is a week after coming back.

Sounds like my vacation isn't going to be any fun....

The good news is, she wants to go to camp for a week (if there is still an opening left).

THEN I'll take a vacation, I swear!

Ok I know some of you couldn't even imagine having a childless week!

So how about this?

What if you knew you were kid free for 4-5 hours?

Would you work, shop, blog, treat yourself to an outing, clean the house? Do tell!

I would have to say if I had several hours alone, I would probably be on the Internet trying to learn something new or figure out something that has been stumping me. I would probably clean a little too- or maybe shop ALONE!

I sometimes find it hard to just relax while I can........

I mean, shouldn't I be out having coffee with a friend or something?

So what about you- what would YOU do?

Don't you just love the family, friends and other people that call you multiple times a day to chat, ask you to volunteer for everything under the sun or even assume you can babysit their kids- all because you work at home?

After all, aren't we all sitting around eating bon-bons and watching soap opera's all day while our computers are making us 6-figure incomes.....by themselves?

I really have to laugh at them.

I recently had someone say something to the effect that I had a lot of time on my hands while THEY worked all day.

Excuse me?

Wouldn't you love to just freak out on them one day?

If I freaked out, some things I would mention...........

#1- When you work at home, you are (usually) a one-man show. Yes you may have an Upline, a Downline or whatever...

But when it comes right down to it, you are the owner, the secretary, the advertisement department and more.

If you have technical problems, your upline or downline isn't going to come to your house and fix it for you.

You also don't have a tech support team at hand, just waiting for your phone call.....

#2- If you are ill, there is no calling in sick, no one to fill in for you. You either work sick, or you don't work.

#3- If you have kids, it is challenging to get anything done......

Yes, you work at home to be with your kids. Unlike our friends who work outside of the home, our kids are not at a babysitters or daycare....they are HERE. So we work around them.

This means we don't necessarily work when everyone else does....it may be a little here, a little there.

Early mornings and late nights, when the kids are sleeping. Between dishes, laundry, sweeping floors and more...

Which brings me to #4

#4- When you work at home, you are going to have MORE housework than someone who works outside of the home.

You and/or your children are bound to use dishes, paper and pencils, toys and other things that normally would not be used if you were working.

This means more dishes and more cleaning. More laundry if the kids get dirty or go swimming during the day.

I'm sure there's a lot more I could mention......

Why affiliate marketing may be for you!

Do you do any affiliate marketing? If not, why not?

I would have to say affiliate marketing is one of my fave ways to make money.

Several years ago, before I even knew what the heck I was doing on the Internet, I tried to start a writing business. It all started with a Letters from Santa kit I purchased online.

I created a website and somewhere along the line I discovered affiliate marketing. I went with one of the major players and off I went.

I created a separate page on my website for a bunch of affiliate banners and links.

One of the big cell phone companies had a great deal going on- get a prepaid phone for $19.99- it even came with like 200 minutes or something!

My commission everytime someone bought one?

A whopping $30.00!

What did my 4 sons and one of their GF get for Christmas that year?

You got it- cell phones.....

It was perfect- my kids wanted one anyway, and I made $10.00 a pop.

4 sons & 1 GF x $10.00 = $50.00 in momma's pocket.

My biz was a no-go and I quit it all.

A year or so later, I started looking into making money on the 'net again.

Once I was established in my home biz and could start some new ventures, I started doing a little affiliate marketing.

It's little bits of money here, some over there........but it adds up.

For example, Thursday I joined the affiliate program for a coupon company:

I put a banner on my mom blog Friday, and this morning I had an email stating I had made $10.00!

Yeeeeee-haw!

I helped someone because now they can save $$$ on groceries and household items.

And if they wish to, they can also join the affiliate program and make money.

This one definately is going on my new page on my blogging website which gives people a list of affiliate marketing sites to try.

If you have a website or blog, you may want to try affiliate marketing- it's FREE and takes very little time to market. Throw a banner on your site, and go do what you normally do.

And there are affiliate opportunities for everyone!

Like golf- they got affiliate programs for it!

Sports? Got them!

Books? Those too!

Keywords, Labels, tags and other blog tools

If you do any kind of online marketing, you know that keywords play an important part in the ranking of your blog or website within the search engines.

When you conduct a keyword research, your ultimate goal is to learn how your prospective customer is using the search engines to find the information or products that they are seeking.

For best results, use keywords within all of your content, especially the first paragraph and preferably in the first sentence.

Of course, beware of overusing them. There's nothing I hate more than going on a site where every other word is a keyword.

Duh- overkill!

If you're not sure what keywords you should be using, there are many free online sources that can help you out.

One I like is:

On the prompt : “Enter a web page URL to find keywords related to the content on the page” type in your blog url and click on “Get Keyword Ideas”.

You will see different keywords and which are the most popular.

Now you can choose which words to add to your content.

Equally important are labels, tags and categories.

With Blogger, you can add labels at the bottom of every post. If you check this post, it will have words such as work at home, keywords,labels,tags,categories and more...

You can add that list to your sidebar in the form of a list or "cloud". If you don't wish to have them taking up space on your side bar, it is available on the "edit posts" page.

When you are ready to publish a post, make sure you have as many labels as you can- a least as many as Blogger allows..

In the past I didn't use the label option as much as I should have.

For example, just this morning, on my "mom blog", I was looking for a certain post.

My son is graduating soon and we wanted some pics to put on his invitation. I knew when he turned 18 yrs old, I did a post about that and it had a pic of his 1st day of school on there.

I searched my site for Golden Child, his "name" on my blog. No results.....

I tried the word "son"- No results....

Duh... I tried birthday- BINGO! Found it.

If I had put all 3 words, I would have found it faster.

Granted, I could have dug around until I came up with the date of the post, but a search is faster IF you have the right labels!

Labels can also assist you in finding old posts that you want to link to.

In WordPress, you have the options to add categories and tags.

Each post can be put in a category as well as have "tags" assigned to it, much like labels in Blogger.

Tags can link to a generated page that lists all of the posts on your site related to that specific tag.

Categories are the "subjects" that you talk about.

Whats the difference?

Generally, categories can have longer names, while tags are only a word or two.

Categories don’t help search engines find information, while Tags help search engines and tag directories catalog your site.

So which should you use?

Since they each have a specific function, I would say- use them all!

Just be careful you don't overdo!

With numbers like that, you need to use all the tools available to you.

Is it time to get out of Dodge?

Are you involved in a homebased business or acting as an Independent Agent for a company? If you work on a commission bases, you probably know it takes time to build up a customer or member base. But how much time is TOO much time? When is it time to "Get out of Dodge"?

Much of it boils down to how long you can afford to work full time making only a part time paycheck. You've probably heard the adage, "Give it 2-4 years...you'll be making multiple 6-figure incomes!"

Ok, maybe not that much, but longevity is definately the key here. If you have been working your opportunity for less than 2 years and you're not making the money you feel you should be, you may want to think twice before quitting and moving to a different opportunity.

Success in ANY venture boils down to a few things:

Do you love what you do and believe in the product or service?

You can't really sell something if you don't use it , love it and believe in the company!

Are you plugged into a good marketing system? A system provides a path to follow, that will ultimately lead to success.

Despite what you may have been told by your upline , success doesn't happen just because you signed on the dotted line and ordered a kit. It takes marketing- LOTS of it!

If your upline doesn't have a PROVEN, Duplicatable system that can be done by the masses, you're doomed.

It's time to find one yourself or get out of Dodge!

If you've been treading water for 2-4 years and still not as successful as you would like to be...

Congratulations, you've stuck it out like you were told!

The question is, were you continuing to learn, working on self-development? Maybe your upline is still marketing like they did before the Social Networking boom. Times have changed, you need to change with it.

I love to write, so blogging and article writing were something I naturally gravitated to on the Internet.

Instead of running 100's of ads a day to promote my biz, I discreetly advertise my biz on my home biz pages on my blogs, and at times write about it.

Believe it or not, that one simple thing, that I love, has brought me MORE business than all the ads...

AND led to another business...........having to do with blogging.

And affiliate marketing.....

Ok, so you've all seen the highlighted links here for Attraction Marketing.

I try not to blatantly say to anyone, "Join this NOW!

But this helped me so much!

If you are struggling in business, you may want to check into it. There are several free newsletters- I make nothing off of you opting into them.

Just so you know....

You can join as a professional, which comes with a monthly fee (yes, I get a few cents for that :-) , but let me tell you...

...they have articles, videos, teleconferences, etc....I mean TONS of them in the professional section.

Everything you ever wanted to know about using SEO, Facebook, article writing, creating websites, blogging, squidoo, coaching, youtube, autoresponders and more...

And they are done by many different people, not just one person.

They even have a 1/2 hour free business coaching session with every one of the coaches. Then if you wish, you can choose the one you like and schedule a follow up with them.

If you are into affiliate marketing, you can refer this service to others, and they have tons of affiliate marketing links that you can put on your blog or website.

This in itself, if you took atvantage of everything and promoted it, could be a biz in itself!

I have been using this system since maybe January and I've barely scratched the surface of the information there!

But this information has really helped me find my niche (writing) - I just can't express how much I have learned in such a short while....

So before you saddle up and "get out of Dodge" maybe you should try one more time......

Are doing reviews killing your blog?

There is something that has been bugging me for a while - blogs that are nothing but reviews, reviews, reviews. There is no great content to read, sometimes not even a profile. A reader has no idea if they can trust the authors opinion, because they don't even know the author.

People buy from people.....

People know I like making money on the Internet through blogging, writing, affiliate marketing and even a home business....

They know I like to help others.

If they read my other blog/s they know me even more personally.

Based on what people know of me, they can decide if they will follow my blog, go to websites or marketing systems I recommend, or even purchase products or services from me.

So I was going to write about about all that, but then found a blog post that pretty much covered that subject. The comments are quite varied and even a little heated.......

A Cowboys Wife really hit a nerve here, but I feel the same way she does.

Reviewing products, especially family related products should be on a "mom or pop" blog, as there will be many readers who are parents.

If you review "business items" such as electronics, marketing systems, books, etc...a straight forward blog is ok, but I still feel people have to get to know a little bit about the author.

Alternative work spaces

How many of you have a home office? Those of you who do are pretty lucky indeed. One space to put everything job related. a place to hide from the world and concentrate on what needs to be done.

But have you ever tried working in another space? Right now I'm on my back porch, writing as I listen to the birds tweeting (Not on Twitter!). I am watching my ducks float on the pond I am digging, which happens to be full of water because of our lovely Central New York weather the last two days.

I have a great outdoor space amongst my gardens out front. That is what I call my outdoor office. I have created an oasis of sorts- an area "fenced in" by lattice, with a small pond and several small flower gardens. It's very nice....a little noisy now and then with traffic, but it is hidden behind trees so pretty private. My wireless Internet reaches that far and I have my cell phone. I sit in my lounge chair and get working!

The only problem- AGAIN is Central New York (or NY in general) - you only have a few weeks of nice weather (if that) before the mosquito's come to suck every drop of blood from you that they can. It is especially bad in wooded areas, which this area is.

So I enjoy working there for a few weeks in the spring/summer and a few weeks in the fall. We go out there almost daily, but don't hang too long.

I love working somewhere besides my office now and then. It renews the spirit and when I move out of my office, I am moving closer to the family.

Gaining and keeping momentum

I'm getting ready to have a lawn sale and was going through some old books of mine.

I found the book: Fast Track: How to Gain and Keep Momentum by Roger Fritz

I had purchased the book way back in the day...when I was testing out a different network marketing opportunity.

I happened to take a peek inside to determine if this is a book worthy of keeping.

I opened to page 111, where it is headlined: Get the wind at your back

It speaks about continued learning, choosing friends wisely, volunteering and working at something you love.

Great advice and the rest of the book looks like it's worth another read.

But then again, the new version looks twice as big, with even more info.

So maybe I'll sell this copy and get a copy of the newest version.

Motivating your downline

Sometimes motivating your downline feels like pulling teeth with a pair of eyebrow tweezers! They say they want a home based business and the success that comes along with it, but they aren't doing the work that it takes to get there.

So what are some ways you can motivate them?

For starters, 85-90% of the people you introduce to your opportunity will never even get started. They will quit before they try!

A few, maybe 5% or so will sponsor a few people..............

....but when these new recruits fail to sponsor anyone new, that original 5% will usually quit.

That leaves the rest...

Not very many :-)

These people will reveal themselves right away. They are the ones that roll up their sleeves and get to work. They do the training in a timely manner, then they are chomping at the bit- ready to go.

So you have a few people that want to work.

How do you motivate them EVEN MORE?

1. Hold a contest- whoever enrolls the most new home business owners or sell the most product gets 20 free leads...

2. Have them help with a training call- recognize that they are in the games!

3. Have a "prize" for whoever promotes within the organization within a given month.

And don't forget to keep adding to your team. That way when a few quit, you won't feel the hit as much.

Remember the old saying..."Don't put all your eggs in one basket!

Motivational Gifts

Are your goals too lofty?

I was reading a post in a mom's community group on blogging. It was from a new blogger. She is making out a schedule of what subject to write about for each day of the week.

I left a comment and told her I thought committing to a post a day was a huge undertaking for a new blogger, especially if you have kids. If she fails to create a post everyday, she will experience a feeling of failure.

I suggested committing to 3 days a week, then if she squeezes in 4 or 5 posts a week she's left with a feeling of accomplishment.

The same goes for a new home business. I cringe when I hear someone say they want to make $2,000 their first month. In most cases, this isn't a reality.

Perhaps these individuals should consider making smaller goals- you know... eat the elephant one bite at a time.
How you can jump start your new home business, one bite at a time:

Do your training! In my opinion, the first 6 weeks should be training.....about the company, product and Internet marketing.

Perhaps goal one would be to ACTUALLY do the company training. I can't tell you how many people start selling before they even know what they are selling!

Make sure you get some training in online marketing like the Attraction Marketing program - this will reduce your learning curve by months or even YEARS! You can actually do this training even BEFORE you start a home business- then when you start your new businesss you go in with everything you need to successfully market your business and coach a team.

When you hear of people making glamorous amounts of income in a home business, ask them how long they have been with the company before you set a goal for yourself. You will find most have put in a few years of work to get to that level.

Make sure you read some great books, like The Slight Edge and How To Select A Network Marketing Company.

Although training takes time, it will reduce the amount of time it actually takes to travel the road to success!

Strutting your stuff...

Over the last 3 years of network marketing, I have tried just about everything there is to get my name and what I do out there.

Online

I used Craigslist and other free online ad sites, I joined online communties and groups, joined and built lists and I blog.

Offline/Warm Market

With my warm market I have put out flyers, had a table set up at events, have a yard sign and writing on the back of my car. I tell everyone I meet (when asked!) what I do. I am the coordinator of the Central New York Network Marketing group.

My Fave Ways to Market

My favorites out of the above marketing strategies have been blogging, putting out flyers, CNY networking meetings and doing events.

What methods do I detest?

#1 is probably Craigslist.............they don't allow people like me to advertise there :-(

Oh, and "home meetings". Every business I have been involved with that promised it involved only 10 -15 hrs a week ended up involving 2-3 meetings a week - to the tune of 2-3 hours each!

That's approximately 5-10 hours in meetings, what about everything else involved?

So, do tell......

I was doing a blog post the other day on my mommy blog about "Monkey" a baby that is in need of some prayers. You can read the story HERE.

What struck me as funny was when I went to publish it, I noticed that instead of putting "Pray for MONKEY" for a title, I had accidentely typed "Pray for MONEY" .

I kind of laughed because it brought to mind how some of us are in the beginning of out Internet careers......

We start a venture, then fall to our knees and pray...............

Pray that customers will miraculously find us amongst the 17 zillion websites and blogs out there...

Pray for prospects to be lining the streets, all wanting to join your opportunity- NOW!

Pray your family and friends will give you a pat on the back and congratulate you on your "new venture"............

I have some news for you.........................

God may answer prayer, but when it comes to business, he isn't going to hand you the bills on a silver platter...

To have a successful Internet business, one needs to take ACTION..... getting the word out there day in and day out, studying Internet marketing techniques, reading books..........

I have nothing against praying, but let's get out there and help ourselves!

Blogging- is it right for you?

I was posting on my Working in jammies blog (my "for fun" blog...) this morning. Fridays are a big day in the blogging world.........at least for me.

There are so many fun "meme's" and blog carnivals on Fridays.

Basically you would visit the site hosting the meme or blog carnival and leave your link on Mr. McKlinky , a widget that the blog author has set up on the blog.

Then you go back and post on the subject of the meme, as in Friday Fragments..............You post all those little snippets of stuff you've been thinking about all week. Basically, stuff that isn't quite a post in itself.

You will see tons of other blog links to check out.

In the case of Friday Follow, Ultimate Girls Night Out and The Ultimate Blog Party, you place your link on the host site, then visit all the other blogs listed.

Sounds like fun and games, huh?

It really is!

But it's business, too.

Many of these bloggers that participate in memes are also home business and small business owners. Authors and artists. Homeschool extrodinaires...........

Those family friendly numbers are staggering...............and guess what?

These are real people that need real products and services....................

The bloggers that participate in Friday Follow, Friday Fragments, Ultimate Girls night Out and others are buyers, too.

And we all know people buy from people, not companies.....

Meet Kristen...product reviewer and affiliate marketer

Kristen has been a SAHM since her twin boys were born 3 1/2 years ago. 6 months ago a daughter arrived and now they are a happy family of 5.

Kristen started her reviewing site about 3 months ago. Having 3 children so close in age has really given her insight into the crush of products out there targeted at moms. Finding it all overwhelming, she wanted a way to reach out to other moms to let them know what worked (and didn't!) for her.

At this point, she is doing reviews exclusively on her own. She is not opposed at all to doing them for companies ....as long as they don't mind an honest review :)!

Her main focus is items aimed at moms and their children- mostly toys, books, DVD's, baby products etc....

Because she is not doing reviews for any specific company, she generates an income through advertising. She uses Google Adsense which pays per image on her site. She is also using affiliate programs which allows her to become an approved advertiser for a company and place their ads on her site.

For example, she is an approved affiliate for Target. If one of her readers clicks on her Target ad and places an order she gets a (small) percentage of the sale.

Kristen says that once her readership grows (which it is) her paycheck will grow with it.

Success with any online adventure is sticking with it.

I was driving down the road today, alone- for once!

I was doing my usual flipping though channels on the radio.

Nothing sounded good.

My mind was buzzing with new ideas for blog posts and content that I have to remember to add to my website.

For some reason, my mind goes crazy when driving. I have been known to stop on the side of the road to write an idea down in my little notebook.

If I have one of those days where I just can't get motivated, a jaunt in the car will get me remembering everything I need to do.

So I'm flipping through channels.... and a Lynard Skynard song comes on....

Now when I'm cleaning house, some Good 'Ol Rock and Roll really makes housecleaning almost..well enjoyable.

But when I'm thinking, it seems loud and distracting.....almost obnoxious.

Sometimes, I just turn the radio off.

Being alone with yourself can somertimes be a good thing.

In the mornings I used to listen to Dani Johnson to pump me up and get my day going .

Now that the weather is turning, a bike ride or walk help set the pace for the day.

Finding your niche

You've heard it before and I'm going to say it again.....you need to find your niche to be "totally free".

You can get out of bed in the morning, pound the phones all day and even make a couple of sales, but if you're not doing what you love a.k.a. what you are "gifted' to do, every day is going to be a drag.

On the flip side, if you are doing what you love, you can't wait to hop out of bed every morning, and you almost hate turning in at night!

The times I've been happiest is helping others.

Whether it is through my Journal Writing classes or my Blog Consulting, I'm having fun while at the same time working.

The beauty is, because I love it, it doesn't seem like work.................

Imagine if you added even 10 members a month:

month 1= enroll 10 members, get paid for 10 people

month 2= enroll 10 more- get paid for 10 people as you enroll them, and 10 people (from last month ) =20 people

month 3= enroll 10 more- get paid for 10 people as you enroll them, get paid for 20 people (last 2 months) = 30 people

Time Waster #1

I really made a mistake that cost me time and maybe even a sale!

I was on a major moms social networking site, advertising Blogging 4 You. What I didn't realize (until I placed an ad in about 30 groups) is that I had the url wrong!

It was just slightly different, but it led to a competitors site!

I had to go back and correct all those links!

Moral of the story:

If you are going to copy & paste an ad, make sure you have the correct url. CHECK IT after your 1st ad!

If you are here, chances are you have (or are thinking)about starting a business.

Although the company you work with may have prefabricated websites, marketing THEIR product or service, you will eventually want to start a blog, where you can market YOU.

If someone is looking to start a home business or money making venture, they will want to do it through someone they know and/or trust.

Think about it.

If I want to start a skin care business, I may start checking out the ads from home business owners in Avon, Melaleuca, Mary Kay, etc....I have an online buddy who does Avon and one who does Mary Kay.

They both have blogs and regularly share their day to day happenings. I know my Avon buddy has 3 kids around the same age as my 3 kids. The Mary Kay friend is a Girl Scout leader like me, and loves to cook. So do I! I have a "connection" with these two.

I know NOTHING about the person behind the Melaleuca.

Chances are, I won't be starting a Melaleuca biz. They may have a fine product, but I don't have anyone giving me 1st hand knowledge on the products and the company. So I may not know how good their products really are.

When I started my new blog with the what.ismyblogs.name program, I signed up under a woman who is "out there" on the Internet through several communities, one being a WAH community she created and maintains. She lives near me, and I once babysat her son. I know her and trust her.

Your prospects don't necessarily have to "live" in your neighborhood, but they have to "visit it" often enough to get a feel for you and whether they want to commit to working with you.

One thing I have discovered with blogging is that it is very easy to go off subject. ~~I often~~ Some of us tend to ramble on and one...forgetting why we started the blog in the first place........

I will soon be teaching some "very beginner" blogging classes, and I think the first thing I will have people do is identify what their blog will be about. So many people I talk with don't know where to begin, what to write about.

Even though sometimes the mission of our blog may alter or change, I believe it is a good jumping off point.

My statement for this blog:

To help others make money at home doing something they can be excited about. Helping them realize their goals by building their online reputation. In the extrememly busy and ever changing online world, it's all about getting out there. Being "the chosen one" in a crowd....

Summer is quickly approaching. While many parents rejoice in the fact that warm weather and lazy days are approaching, many are stressing about childcare.

Because it often takes two incomes to make it in these trying times, usually both parents need to work. But is the cost of working worth it?

In many instances, NO!

Often gas, childcare, work clothes, and meals out eat up the second paycheck. Which leaves many looking for a work at home job or opportunity.

This means that in the months ahead, you can expect the number of prospects looking for an opportunity to increase.

What are some ways to get the word out about your opportunity?

Get out there on the Internet by placing free online ads

Join a few social networking sites. You may have heard that Ning is going to start charging, so check this out:

It is FREE and pretty new, so be one of the first there........and don't forget to fill out the profile page. People DO look at them.

Blog about it- Blogging is HUGE these days! Blog about it and blog often.

Blogger.com is free to use, and fairly easy to use.

You can make money by refering others, and your biz is exposed in the business directory for the service AND on many of the blogs (note the Blog Directory on mine).

Get out of the house!
Check out vendor fairs at schools, carnivals and churches. Often a table is only $10- $20. You can hand out samples, catalogs and flyers. FREE drawings are a great way to promote at the event, too!

Put up flyers
Carry a stack of flyers in your car that pertains to your business +/or product. Black ink on yellow paper is supposed to be the most eye catching. I have found the simpler, the more effective.

I used to make flyers that had fancy pictures, tons of text, etc...

I have reduced them down to this:

Carry them everywhere, give them to everyone!

I have been noticing alot of questions out there in the social networking scene about how to make money blogging.

Google seems to take forever to make any money, and the bloggers just aren't happy!

Here are a few other things you can try to boost your income while having fun blogging:

Offer advertising- Many home business owners and small business owners are operating on a tight budget. Offer affordable advertising and it's a win-win situation for all. They can advertise to a target audience and you pocket a little spare change.

Affiliate Marketing Many companies will compensate you a portion of every sale if you put their button or banner on your site. Check with any companies that sell items similar to your product or service. See if they have an affiliate marketing link. Or go with a service like Commission Junction a "clearinghouse" of sorts for companies offering an affiliate opportunity.

Do product reviews and blog about it. Companies will let you test their products and then write about it. From what I understand, you can sometimes keep the product you reviewed.......sometimes there is $$$$ involved.

Ok, I don't mean to hollar, but I wanted to make my point.

Please, please do not hold me to my word- at least as far as goals, hopes and dreams.

Because dreams and goals can change. Think back to your high school days.

What did you want to do with your life?

Are you doing it now?

Believe it or not, at one time I wanted to be an Archeologist. And a school teacher. And a writer!

So I did work in a daycare center for several years, and did home daycare for about 10 years. Even worked in an elementary school as a resource person.

Did I choose to do this forever?

NOT!

I write, and have been published a few times in a local magazine. But do I write full time?

NO!

Am I an Archeologist?

NO!

At one time, I dreamed of having a houseboat and floating the waters of the world. Ron wanted an RV.

Since I started homeschooling, I want an RV. I want to explore the US, go to historical sites.

Funny how I hated that stuff in school! Now I yearn for it.

Many people get frustrated when they set goals, and fail to achieve them in the time frame that they set.

Other's find themselves half-heartedly trying to achieve goals that they no longer really want to achieve. But they feel as if once a goal is set, it must be met.

Nothing will keep a person "stuck in a rut" and "underachieveing" more than working for something we don't even desire.

So sit down and take a second look at your long term hopes, dreams and goals.

Have they changed?

Write new ones!

Are they the same, but you just need more time? Change your goal date.

Find something you truly desire and see if you don't find yourself jumping out of bed every morning eager to get to work and fulfill that dream!

January was a busy month here. Trying to catch up after Christmas, starting a new homeschooling blog and preparing (I hope) to go on the road in the fall, expanding my business and "roadschooling" my daughter. I've been looking for a trailer to travel in.

Homeschooling and Roadschooling are some of the cool advantages that can come as a result of working at home. Your time is pretty much your own. Barring our medical appointments, what is really stopping me from traveling the US? Not much!

Even if you "dry camp" on "boondock" , which usually means free camping ( usually on state land) without hook-ups for elect. and water, you can still work. Free Internet cafe's, satellite dishes for Internet, cell phone cards, etc...all provide Internet. Cell phones provide the phone, and you can get solar panels to keep your batteries charged so you have electric.

Working at home also gives you the freedom to be a scout leader, a sports coach, youth group leader and more. Your children will be positively effected by hanging with you more..........

You also receive some GREAT home office deductions, and save on a babysitter and gas. And the time you save because you are no longer commuting to work....

Residual Income- What is it?

In my Examiner column today, I listed my 6th reason to be thankful you work from home. My reason today was Residual Income. It is by far one of my favorite subjects, as I have experienced the power it has to build a great income. And to provide an income when you are unable to work, as I was .Notice the word "BUILD".

I got to thinking there's a slim chance (very slim:-) that not everyone reads this blog AND my Examiner column, so I give some information in both spots.

In a nut shell, residual income is income you receive over and over, sometimes even years after writing that initial piece of business.

All companies do things a little different, but I can speak for the company I work with. I hear there are several that are similar.

Say in month one- I enroll 10 people into a dental or health plan. I get paid on each of them within a few days of enrollment.

Month two, I enrolled 10 more: I get paid on 20 people (assuming here that all my 1st month people are still members)

10 people from last month, and 10 new people

Month three- I enrolled 10 more: I get paid on 30 people (assuming here that all my previous people members are still on the books)

20 people from months one and two, and 10 people from this month

Month four- A lot has been going on in my life. I really didn't get a chance to work much. I will get paid on 30 people. I didn't have any new business but I still get a check.

The same goes for recruiting new business owners into your company. Some companys will give residual pay on your downline, some give bonuses based on your downlines performance. Some offer both.

Cool, huh?

Sometimes a company will give advance pay. You get several months advance pay (we'll use 3 months here) on new customers, then your monthly residuals start on month 4. Some companys charge paybacks if a member quits, some don't.

That is my experience with residual income. So far, I have had great experiences with it.

What's on your wall? I don't mean your FaceBook wall, I mean your office/workspace wall?

Are you surrounding yourself with things that keep you motivated?

The wall directly in front of my laptop is full of stuff- odd things that help me out in my biz or keep me motivated:

A pic of a home on a lake- something I think I may want some day! My 2nd home, except for my cruise boat!

"I have the power"- I believe I obtained this little "thought provoking" quote at a convention for hemophiliacs that used to be held every year. My brother was a hemophiliac bleeder as were some uncles and a great uncle. We used to attend a convention every year for families with hemophiliacs. Great time. Anyway, picked up the quote there!

"Love, Love, Love those Texas Buns" is a postcard I got while we were at one of the AmeriPlan conventions in Dallas, TX. It reminds me of the great times there, how much I love my team and why I love working at home. I mean, would a boss have let me go to Texas to check out a little "Texan Buns?" NOT!

My AmeriPlan "cheat sheet" a little outdated. Updating it IS on my list of stuff to do!

I know to a perfectionist this may seem like a lot of useless, messy stuff. But hey, it keeps me motivated.

Why is that some people start "selling" you on their product or service before the word "hello" has even been uttered?

In the past week, I have had 1 person trying to sell me on their product through a chat, and several trying to set up one on one time with me to "Talk."

Hello, I don't know you and you don't know me.

I do not profess to be an expert in how you should to build your home business, but over the past two years, I've become quite a professional on what NOT to do!

And one thing I have learned is don't talk business right away. If someone asks, that's different. Tell them you work at home for (fill in the blank) and we sell (fill in the blank). If they want more information, supply it. If not, shut up! If they need your product, they will let you know.

Another thing that just doesn't really work for me is purchased leads. Most peoples names have been sold to so many people, that by the time you call, they are feeling harrassed. The last thing they want is to talk to you. Yes, sometimes we get lucky, but most often not. It could take 100's of dials off the lead list to produce one or two results. And usually they are short lived.

So I have turned to a great marketing system I have discovered. By following this sytem, prospects are actually looking for you! By the time they find you, they are prequalified and ready to get to work. They are the 10% that want to get to work and will be successful.

To be successful work at home parent, one needs to have a comfortable yet functional space in which to work. It not only provides the privacy you need, it lends credibility to what you do.

Others are more likely to take your job seriously if you have a home office and set work hours. The ideal situation would be to turn a spare bedroom or den into an office.

Unfortunately, many of us lack a spare room. But there may be other options available if you look around and take stock of what space you do have. Erma Bombeck wrote from her utility room. Many people create office space in a corner of their basement, in a converted garage or even a shed. My writing space as a child was the crawl space attic. When my parents weren’t home, I would grab the ladder, and go up to my ‘office." I have no clue where my sister, who was supposed to watching me was. My dream office is in a tree fort, but that’s another story.

Converting a closet into an office works quite well. If it is the kind that runs the length of the room, you only need to paint the walls, put a desk and filing cabinet inside, and place shelves above the desk. You have an instant office. You can remove the doors or keep them on so you can shut them when you are done with work for the day.

If you don’t have a desk, you can easily create one with a sheet of plywood placed on top of two sawhorses. You can also attach the plywood to the wall with a brace or hinges. A long, low dresser can be converted to a desk by removing the drawers and cutting away the runners. An old kitchen table can also make a nice desk.

The important thing is to make sure you have sufficient storage. Utilize wall space by hanging shelves, and don’t forget the space under the desk and on top of the filing cabinets. Be sure to place the filing cabinet near the desk or filing tends to be put off. Make sure you create space for a computer and a printer. You want to be able to do everything from your office, not have to go to another room to perform a task.

It doesn’t matter whether you are in a corner of a room or in a garage, if you give your space a personal touch, you will be half way to a successful career.

Have you ever had one of those calls where the other person was so negative, you wanted to slam the phone down in their ear? In fact, they are so negative, you are surprised they didn't hang up on you!

I had that happen the other day, only it was in a chat. I was on a social networking site. I heard a "bloop" and realized that someone wanted to chat with me.

She started out asking me what I do from home. She needed to make money and it needed to be at home.

I started telling her what was involved with my biz- run ads, answer calls, enter information onto the computer. She said that type of thing wasn't for her

I asked her if she was a writer. Nope, not interested.

I asked if she had a blog. Nope.

Was she crafty? No!

How about home daycare? No, she already had enough kids.

Finally I realized I was spending a lot of time on someone that is so negative, nothing would have appealed to her.

And I had a long list of people I needed to call that DID want to work and make money at home.

I really wanted to get out of this conversation.

I am too nice. I couldn't say, "You are so negative I don't even feel good talking with you."

Thank goodness the phone rang and I told her I'd be back after my call, which I wasn't....

If you get a negative person on the phone, your best bet is to end the call A.S.A.P!

You don't want negativity dragging you down.

So get out of any negative conversations, and call the people that do want to make a positive change in their life. Their enthusiasm will bring you back to where you need to be...positive and enthusiastic.

And being positive and enthusiastic is what brings in the dollars.

Keeping the kids busy while you work at home

Working at home can be a real challenge when you have children; especially if they are not yet in school. You can’t just park them in front of the TV all day. Below are some tips to help your days go smoother.

Morning Rush Hour

By morning rush hour, I’m not talking about driving down the highway. I’m talking about the mad rush that goes on in most households in the morning as kids get ready for school and the spouse gets ready for work. By getting clothes and lunches ready the night before, you can avoid some of that morning insanity. If your children buy lunch, be sure the night before that you have the proper change on hand.

If you have little ones at home, put a small desk or table near your desk. This is your child’s desk. Give them a play phone, an old typewriter (or old computer), some paper, pencils, crayons, a calculator, and anything else you can dream up to keep them busy. Then, they can do their "business" while you do yours. Don’t forget to "pack their lunch!" Include juice boxes, snacks, and a sandwich for lunch. Then you won’t constantly be interrupted with requests for drinks and food. If your child is old enough, you can also keep a small pitcher in the fridge filled with their favorite drink so they can help themselves.

Set your timer for a predetermined amount of time when you and your child sit at your desks. When the timer goes off, the child knows it is time to spend with Daddy or Mommy. Read or play games for half an hour or so. Then pull out the playdoh or paint and let them have fun while you work another half hour or so. After lunch, put them down for a nap, and work some more.

Give them a box!

It’s a known fact that children love the boxes more than the toys. If you can get your hands on an appliance box, you can keep the kids busy for hours. The first thing you need to do is cut out some windows and doors for them. Then, depending how brave you are, you give them paint, markers or crayons to decorate the box. When they are through, they can play in the house.

If you don’t have a large box get some smaller ones. They make perfect houses for Barbie’s and other small dolls. Use old cereal and food boxes to create a village.

Put them to work

Children can help you with your business. My 12-year-.old daughter helps me by putting my contact information on brochures, putting stamps on mail, and cutting out flyers. She also loves to ride around with me putting out flyers. The reward? We go out to lunch afterward!

If you don’t have the kind of job that your children can help with, they can at least help out around the house. It will never hurt a kid to wash dishes, vacuum, clean a bathroom or mow the lawn. My boys also wash their own clothes. Having the kids do chores teaches them responsibility, that they must work to help the family unit, and also frees up time for you to work.

Toddlers and preschoolers love to clean! Give them a spray bottle with water and a rag and have them spray the refrigerator, dishwasher and other safe surfaces. They can also dust- every little bit helps.

Join a babysitting Co-op or arrange a play date for your children. A babysitting co-op is a group of like-minded parents who agree to share responsibility for watching each others' little ones while Mom or Dad goes to the doctor, does their shopping, or works in peace. On the same principal, you can arrange a play date for your child. My daughter often goes down to her friend’s house. She may stay there a few hours or all day. The next weekend, her friend will come here for several hours. This enables both sets of parents a little quiet time to work, whether at the desk or outside, or even to take for a nap.

When all else fails, do something wild and crazy !

The craziest thing I have ever done with kids was to bring the sandbox in the house. Seriously! I was doing home daycare at the time, and it had been a long, cold winter. The kids were getting antsy from being cooped up so much, and I wasn’t fairing much better.

I had the wild idea of bringing the sandbox inside. It had been emptied of sand in the fall and stored in the shed. I got some sand at the local hardware store, put the sandbox in the kitchen, and filled it. I put in some pails, shovels, and measuring cups. I had the children take their shoes and socks off and laid down the ground rules. Sand stayed in the box! I figured they would play for an hour and be sick of it. They played almost all day!

Believe it or not, when I went to clean up, it was a jif. I swept up the little bit of sand that was on the kitchen floor, and threw it out. The sand in the box was scooped with the buckets and shovels and put back in the bags in no time. The sandbox was put back in the shed. I vacuumed just in case some sand made it to the living room, and I was done. That was one of my most successful days doing daycare. I was actually bored! Imagine that!

Another time, I spray-painted a bunch of stones gold, and mixed them up with the sand in the sandbox. Giving children a sieve, I told them to pan for gold. They were busy for hours.

With a little patience and ingenuity, you can come up with ways to keep children busy while you work. Busy children are happy children. Happy children make for happy parents. Which makes for a happy home and workplace for all.

Missing in Action; Where's my downline?

I remember when I first started my home business. I had a day where I recruited 3 people in a couple of hours. I was hot!

Or so I thought. The fact of the matter is I talked to one of the ladies the next day, and never heard from her again! I tried to call her several times to no avail. I still don’t know to this day if she’s even living.

The next one stayed on board for a month or so, but never did much. Then she quit. Two months later she called, all excited. Some of those people she had sent postcards to months before were starting to call her. She wanted back in.

I got her back in, only to have her do nothing, and quit again.

The next one stayed a few months, also doing nothing. Then they quit, but stayed on as a health member for about a year.

If you have been in your business for a while, this most likely rings a bell. If you’re new, you need to know this is normal.

Not everyone you recruit is going to stay. Not even those gung ho “winners” you’ve got. In fact, the majority won’t. Period.

So what’s going on then? They say they want the freedom of no boss, freedom to go on vacations, to spend time with their kids.

Why aren’t they working like you are to achieve those goals?

One reason people disappear is they realize that a home business is REAL WORK. It takes time to build a business and they aren’t willing to put in the time. These are usually the people that claim that they don’t want a get rich quick scheme. Hello? What DO they want?

Your down line may have also been possessed by a Dream Stealer. We’ve all run into them!

If you have someone that is Missing In Action but they haven’t quit yet, here are a few things you can do.

1. Send a nice card expressing concern for their well being
2. Keep sending any informational emails to them- they may actually be reading them!
3. Bless and Release them. They will either come around at a later point, or end up quitting.

If they have quit, bless and release them.

The fact is, you can’t make a person work. All you can do is keep on working your business, while looking for people that are willing to do what it takes to make it to the top. Just like you!

As discussed on Friday, there are 3 reasons why people don’t buy from you.

Today we will discuss the prospect that DOES have money, but they aren’t telling you.

The burning question is why they aren’t biting….

There is one very logical answer to that. They really don’t want or need what you are offering. They have checked out your product, and looked at the business opportunity. They just can’t envision themselves using the product, much less selling it. Remember, you need to believe in and be excited about your product.

Another reason someone is not entering into a business relationship with you may be that you haven’t gotten them “dreaming”. They like your product. They have heard your opportunity, but just don’t see what’s in it for them.

Sometimes we get caught up in our presentations when talking to prospects. We give the company information, pay scale, start-up fee’s and training. But one vital ingredient is missing…

The Dream!

Everyone has a dream or a “why”. Something they want to achieve in life, or maybe something they would like to own. They may desire a certain lifestyle.

Our job as recruiters is to pull those dreams from people. Help them to see that with persistence, faith and a little elbow grease, they can have what they desire.

Here are a few questions I like to ask right in the beginning:

1. Why do they want to work from home?
Really listen for buzzwords that identify their needs. Some may be “stay home with kids”, “ be my own boss”, or “take care of an aging parent”. These are surface needs. But what about their dreams?

2. Can you tell me more about that?
People love to talk about themselves. If all you talk about is YOURSELF, they will feel you don’t care about them and their needs. It’s ok to give a brief summary of your experience with the company, but keep it to a minimum. People want to know how this opportunity can help THEM.

3. (One of my personal favorites) If you had all the money you needed to pay your bills and live comfortably, what would you do with your time?
This really stumps a lot of people and gets them thinking. I heard this on a training call…I want to say Jeffrey Combs, but I could be wrong. Listen to him anyway, he’s good!

So now you’ve got them dreaming…you’re taking notes. They are interested. You are interested in them as well.

Go for the close. Ask them if they can see how this opportunity could help them________ (fill in the blank with their dreams and desires)

If they say yes, get the application started.

If they still aren’t sure, ask them if you can add them to your address book so you can alert them to any product changes or promotions with in your company.

Remember to offer your actual product or service. They may end up joining your business after being a customer for a while.

If you have presented your opportunity in a clear manner, and started your prospects back on the road to dreaming again, then all is not lost. A seed has been planted.

Note: I know I promised to go furthur into why people say they have no money....but I had some unexpected company pop up over the weekend, so I'm not quite done with that. But I thought this info would be helpful in the meantime.

One of the problems facing new business owners is getting their information in front of people. Many start out with very little or no advertising budget. How are they supposed to make money if no one is looking at their website?

Here are a few things to try. As you can see, I use them as well!
FREE web traffic You will need to look at 6 websites, get the code placed on top, and put it where specified. Then, your site will be added onto the top.

Here are a couple of List Building Sites I like. They enable you to blast emails to thousands of people at once.

Most list building sites are free, although they may have an upgrade option if you would like to email to more people or even make money with them.

Did you know, you can get FREE or reduced business cards, postcards, sign and more? Check it out here

And finally, there's free online advertising. Just Google the words "free online advertising" and you'll get enough sites to last you a life time.

You can find out some important information about a web site by going to Alexa.com

You can check out a websites traffic,what country(s) most of the traffic comes from, daily rankings and more.

Every ad site is a little different, but with most you are basically filling out an online form to create your ad. They vary in the information you can provide. Some will not allow links, others charge for graphics.

Your best bet is to start with two or three sites, learn the ropes, and then start branching out to others.

These are just a few ways to get your information out to a lot of people in a short amount of time. But the key is to remember to be doing these actions every day! Consistency is key!

I want to start a home business, but I have no $$$

You’ve been working on your business faithfully. You’re putting ads online, you’re hanging flyers around town, and talking to tons of people. And just today you had a great conversation and your prospect was super- excited. You were super-excited too! Then you mention start-up costs - and it’s like you deflated their balloon! And you feel the air seeping out of your balloon as well!

If you’ve been in business for a while, you’ve heard it before…the interest is there, but no one seems to have any money. Is everyone REALLY that broke?

The answer is a big NO! At least not everyone.

There are three types of people that claim to not have the money:

1. The one’s that DO have the money, but don’t know it yet!

2. The one’s that DO have money and know it, but for whatever reason they aren’t buying from you or joining you in a business relationship.

3. The one’s that really don’t have the money

How do you determine what type of person you are dealing with?

I am going to address the first type of person today:

Those that DO have money, but don’t know it.

If you have a serious prospect, and they say they don’t have the money, you may want to determine just where they do spend the money they acquire.

You may ask them something like,

“ Let me ask you Cindy, you say you want to change your life. You’re tired of living in a 2-bedroom apartment with 4 kids and driving a 1979 jalopy. You also say you don’t have the $50.00 to start your home business today. If I can show you how to get that money in the next week or so, would you be ready to start your business at that time?”

If they are serious, they will say YES. Ask them to think about where they spend their money and could trim back.

Here are a few ways people can come up with extra money:

Do they eat out or have food delivered at home? Give it up for a night/week.

Entertainment- They can watch a movie at home instead of going out

If they get their hair/nails done- delay it for a week or two

Bring a lunch to work for a week instead of buying

Bring coffee from home rather than buy at a doughnut shop/convenience store (this is called the Latte Factor)

If they don’t normally do it, use coupons for a few weeks when grocery shopping

Have a garage sale

Sell unused items on ebay

If they smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol or soda- can they cut back? All of these things are costly & bad for you!

If your prospect is serious about changing their life, you will hear from them within a few weeks. If not, they are a #2 or #3.

Make a dream board, quotes & more...

Here is one of my favorite quotes, which kind of ties in with my last post.....

Believe that all the resources you need are in your mind. That is a formula that really works.

This hangs on the wall behind my desk, so I can see it at all times.

Another thing (there are many!) that hangs on my office wall is my "inspiration" pic.

It is a collage of inspirational words and phrases cut out of magazines, like "Fullfill your quest", "You will", "The long view", "Stress the though of plenty. Thoughts of plenty help create plenty", and more.

Another great idea (yes, I have this, too) is to create a Dream Board. A dream board is similar to the inspiration pic, but instead has pictures. The pictures are of your dreams! Mine has a cool car, a nice house, a houseboat, and more!

You may want to make one or both of these.

They are great ways to keep you motivated when you're feeling down.

Is What You Think What You Get?

Can thinking rich thoughts bring you riches? Why do some people work 60 + hours a week and never seem to get ahead, while someone else works 20 hours and prospers?
Could it be their thought patterns?

There are many who would agree that positive thinking does have an effect on our destiny. But is it enough to just think a thought and it will manifest? If it were that easy, wouldn’t we all think positive thoughts?

Unfortunately, we are all programmed from birth with different beliefs regarding our world and ourselves. These beliefs are acquired through a network of sources- parents, neighbors, friends, community leaders, teachers, scouts, and TV. We take bits and pieces of the data that has been fed to us over the years and form our own beliefs and opinions.

Did you know that if your parents thought of wealthy people as “Greedy, selfish people who steal from the poor” and you’re then told by your teachers that you will have to work hard for 40 years, you may actually (subconsciously) be keeping yourself from acquiring wealth?

So can you just think rich to grow rich?

Not exactly! You need to believe something can happen for it to actually happen. If you declare success, but in your heart you don’t believe you deserve it, it will not manifest itself in your life.

What you need is to change your beliefs. Once you BELIEVE it in your heart, you will take the steps needed to make it happen.

So how do you change your beliefs? Create new thoughts!

The Challenge

Once you really BELIEVE having money is ok, write down some positive affirmations. Hang them on your office wall, the refrigerator, or your bathroom mirror. Everytime you see them, say them.

It takes about 21 days to form a new habit. If you get going today, you should see positive results in your finances in less than a month!

A few affiramtions to try:

I prosper wherever I turn and I know that I deserve prosperity of all kinds

I always receive more than what I need

Success comes effortlessly to my direction.

Is there an Energy Sucker in your life?

Have you ever had an Energy Sucker invading your space? It may be a friend that wants to chat 27/7 about everything under the sun- from her jerk of a boyfriend to her in- grown toenail to her boring excursions to the mall. Maybe it's a mother-in-law who is always into your personal business and gives unwanted advice.

Whoever they are, they can really put a dent in your schedule, and cause a ton of stress as well. Here is a poem I wrote years ago when we had an "Energy Sucker" invading our space. ( fill in she for he if that is your case)

The Energy Sucker

The Energy Sucker, he strikes by day
The Energy Sucker he strikes by night

He strikes from nearby
And also from afar
He'll be sure to get you wherever you are

Whether face-to-face or through the telephone wire
At the sound of his voice, you'll begin to tire

Your body will be weary, your spirit will fall
When the Energy Sucker comes to call

Be on your guard he is always standing by
To suck your energy and leave you dry.

Steps To Keep The Energy Suckers At Bay!

1. Establish a work schedule and let friends and family know it.

2. If someone still doesn't back off, you may have to speak with them personally. If it is a friend or family member, let them know you would love to chat AFTER working hours. Give them a time when you will be available.

3. When you are working, do not answer the telephone. Check your messages and call back only those that pertain to business until your "working hours" are over.

Remember that this is your home business. By blocking off time for it everyday(and sticking to it) you send a signal to others that you are serious about your business. And most people, not even realizing they were being Energy Suckers will respect that.

Stop the dream stealers in their tracks!

You hang up the phone, super excited. You have just started your new home based business! Dreams that have been collecting dust in the recesses of your mind are clamoring to the surface. Maybe there is hope after all. Finally, a way out of the rat race. You’re flying high and can’t wait to tell the wife! You know she’ll be just as excited as you are.

You pace back and forth in front of the window, awaiting her arrival. When you see her, you run out to meet her at the car.

“Honey, I’ve got great news! I’ve finally found something that is going to make us rich!”

She responds with:

A) “Did you win the lottery?”

or......

B) “Who died?”

or......

C) “What did you do now?”

You tell her about Scott, your best friend from kindergarten calling you out of the blue and presenting a business plan that could not fail. It was selling widgets! Everyone needs widgets!

You wait for the excitement……. Silence …There isn’t any excitement at all.

In fact you’re in the doghouse! She is furious that you spent money on a “scam” as she called it.

You sleep on the couch, figuring she’ll “come around”.

You go to work and share the news of your new business with a buddy at work. He laughs . "C’mon you don’t believe all that stuff do you? Only the lucky get rich!"

Your wife is mad at, your co-workers are laughing at you, and your parents think you’re crazy!

You start to wonder- what if everyone’s right?

They are not right, they are dream stealers!

Dream stealers can be your spouse, a parent, your neighbor, even a close friend or office colleague.

Some dream stealers are those who love you. They don’t understand what you are doing and are concerned for you and your family. These people may not even realize they are dream stealers.

Others may be jealous. Maybe they have given up a dream in the past and can’t see the road back.

Regardless of Dream Stealers, you CAN succeed at business. Look at all the modern conveniences at our disposal. They all started with a dream and became a reality with hard work. Even when they were told they couldn’t, they did.

How to STOP the dream stealers,

Remember your WHY: Write down your reasons for wanting to be INDEPENDENT and achieve TIME FREEDOM. It is easier to stay on track if you keep that in the forefront of your mind.

Create a dream board with pics of your dreams. What do you want? A new car? Put a picture of your dream car on your dream board. Add to it as you create new goals for the future.

Stay away from dream stealers! Most people face at least some dream stealers on their journey to freedom. Like speed bumps in the road, they just about stop you in your tracks. Try to steer clear as much as possible. If you have to be with them, don’t bring up business. Accentuate the positive aspects of your home-based business if asked.

Make a list of comebacks for different “comments” dream stealers may make. The important thing is to keep your cool and remember you are in charge of your life, not them.

If you seriously work your new business despite everything, you will soon have the proof that working at home is the right choice for you.

And they may even want to join you!

The First Weeks In Your New Home Based Business

Starting a new endeavor can be a time of many emotions. You may be excited, scared or even a little apprehensive. You know you want to change your life for the better. You know you need to get to the training and get to work, but you’re overwhelmed!

All the training, the websites and the new terminology! How in the world will you ever make sense out of everything and make an income?

The first thing you must remember is that this is a new career for you. If you had a new JOB, you would most likely feel overwhelmed there as well. Reserve the first couple of weeks as your training period. You wouldn’t train for a new job for 12 hours straight. You don’t have to train for a home business in one night either. Figure out a schedule for training, just like you will later be creating a work schedule.

Make sure you contact your recruiter/enroller EVERY DAY; either by email, instant message, or by telephone. Ask questions. You will need that support as you build your business. The good new is, leaders work with and help the willing!

Participate in training calls. You can never learn enough. And again, when you’re name is heard over and over, the leaders know you are working!

Get educated. There are some great books out there for home business owners. Some of my favorites are listed below.

Get the word out! You need to always be “planting seeds” if you want your business to grow. Don’t be ashamed or embarrassed about your home business…

…be proud that you are taking control of your life and ensuring a future filled with financial and time freedom for you and your family.

You've been researching home business opportunities. You’ve narrowed your search down to 2 or 3 companies. You have requested information from these companies, and no one is calling you back!

No, you’re not being blacklisted by the work at home community!

Chances are one of the following things have happened:

You may have misspelled your email address or phone number

If an email is spelled incorrectly, it will be returned.

If you provided a telephone number, you may have made a mistake when typing in the numbers.

You have a “no-no” email address!

Email addresses like: sexymomma6969x2@yahoo.com or womanhater@hotmail.com probably will be overlooked as junk. And honestly, being sexy is not a condition of being a successful business partner. No one cares what you look like.

And if you are a woman hater....well, a good majority of home business leaders are women! NEXT! Do yourself a favor- use an email address that is professional.

You provided all the correct information and still no information…

If you haven't received an email and you know you provided a correct email address, check your spam or bulk folder. If you know the recruiters email, be sure to add them to your address book so that you can receive emails from them.

The call back

When you state on your request for information to call you at 1 p.m. central, BE THERE at 1 p.m. central. There is usually an area on contact forms to write additional comments. If so, specify if you will be unavailable on certain days.

Call or email if you are unable to keep that appointment. Recruiters get many, many requests for work at home. If you are unavailable when they call, they may or may not have a chance to get back with you.

Make sure you can accept calls if you are using a cell phone number and be sure to have a voicemail or answering machine with a NICE message in case you are not there. Let’s not get into some of the messages I’ve heard. And these people want to work with me?

While we are on the subject of cell phones- check your ring tone! Take off that music that plays for 10 minutes before you answer or the voicemail comes on. People in business don’t have time to sit through a bunch of these ring tones everyday- NEXT!

These are a few reasons why you may not be getting calls back. So remember to double-check your spellings and telephone numbers when asking for information. Have a “normal” ring tone on cell phones, and leave a nice voicemail. You may even get a nice message back. The call that can change your future!

How to Start Your Home Business Search

So, you’ve decided to start a home business, not an at home “job”. You know the difference between the two and are exited about your decision.

You start searching online, only to discover that there are TONS of opportunities to choose from. Vitamins and weight loss products, make-up and shampoo, jewelry, kitchenware, legal services, healthcare, financial services, electric and telephone service- the list goes on and on.

How do you even begin to weed through it all?

Start by writing down you’re interests:

Do you love and use make-up?

How about jewelry?

Are you passionate about education?

Helping others?

Choosing a company that markets a product or service you can get passionate about helps ensure your success. It is hard to sell make-up if you don’t use the product itself.

Do your research!

Make sure you speak to someone that works the business. Find out how long the company has been in existence.

Longevity speaks for itself. A company with several years under its belt is a big plus.

Find out the start-up costs and monthly fees.

Most home business opportunities do have start up fee’s as well as monthly fees. Work at home jobs do not require a fee to start.

Why charge a start-up cost?

You have to remember you are starting a business. If you opened a hardware store or a McDonald’s, there would be considerate fees involved. A home business is generally under $100.00. For that money you would receive (any or all) product samples, marketing materials any websites.

If a company sent their kits to every new home business owner for free, they would be broke.

The fact is many people start a home business and fail to even "really" get started. Hard to believe, but true!

Is ongoing training and support provided?

It will be your lifeline in the beginning stages of building your new business. Like a new “job”, you will be learning new skills.

Once you have found “the company”, get going and don’t stop till you get where you’re going! Procrastination never made anyone rich!

Here is some food for thought. Are you looking for a JOB at home or a HOME BUSINESS ? Do you know the difference?.

A job usually has set working hours. You may need a room separate from the main living quarters, and possibly a dedicated telephone line.

You can expect a regular paycheck with a job. The pay is usually on an hourly bases like a traditional job.You need permission for a day off.

There are not many work from home “jobs”. If there were, wouldn’t everyone work at home?

With a home business, ou are in charge of every aspect of that business. You need to learn about your company’s products or services and how to market them.

You need self-discipline. You need to ignore the dirty dishes in the sink. You will need to create a schedule with time set aside for your business, family and housework.

You are usually paid commissions and with some companies, bonuses. You need to BUILD a business, one customer at a time. But once you start building, you can’t stop!

With a home business, you don’t need permission to take time off. You can be there for loved ones if needed, attend school plays and ball games. You can give yourself a raise whenever you want just by working harder! With some companies, you are building a lifetime residual income.

When starting a home business, be sure you “connect” with your enroller or sponsor. This person will be your mentor –they will assist you in your business. Be sure they provide ongoing training and support.

Make sure others are available in case your mentor is not available when needed. Having a team who will take the time and train you properly is extremely important. It can be the difference between success and failure.

Now, take some time to “digest” all this information, and then get going on finding your next work at home job or business opportunity.
